In the Triangular match at West Essex Golf Club, against Essex and Kent, the Middlesex U18 team performed exceptionally well, beating Kent, the 2013 winners but losing to a strong Essex team. The team consisted 5 foursomes pairs and 10 singles. There was 2 points for a win and 1 for a half.
In the morning foursome against Kent, after losing the first match, Kumar and Matthew Lockwood gained a valuable half, before winning 2 of the last 3 foursomes, to be level with Kent at lunchtime.
In the afternoon singles, against Essex, Kumar Gupta Starkie, got the team off to a great start winning the first match 3&1, but the match result was in the balance until the last two matches out on the course, with James Ruddick winning comfortably 4&2 and Ed Williams capping a great day by winning 2&1, giving him 4 wins out of 4. These vital wins enabled the Middlesex team to leapfrog Kent, beating them 8 matches to 7 and moving into 2nd place on the day
