The County team for its 1st league match of the season was Justin Phelps, Dean Fallon, Michael O’Connor, David Ryan, James Ellis, Max McGrail, Danial Parsons and Sufian Dhaduk. A bright fresh day but with a howling wind making it difficult enough to stand still let alone play some excellent golf. The team unlike in the last 2 years overcame their usual foursomes stutters and went into lunch with a
2 ½ - 1 ½ lead. Justin / Dean ended up all square having been in charge for most of the game: Michael / David lost: James / Max won fairly comfortably 3/2: Danial / Sufian forgot their early poor shots and recovered to win 3/1. In the pm singles Michael led off and was never down but had to hole a 5 footer on the last green to keep his lead: James could not match the accuracy of his opponent and lost: Justin prevented another 3 putt by stiffing his tee shot at the 17th to 10 ins to see out the game: David was outgunned by his opponent and lost: Max fought all the way but could not birdie the 18th and lost: Dean was a comfortable winner. So it was down to the final 2 singles – Danial fell behind at the start but made a great comeback to be all square and Sufian always had the edge winning 3/1.
