Middlesex Golf Union
Finals Day took place on Saturday 30th September 2017 courtesy of Wyke Green Golf club. The Division 1 semi-finals took place in the morning and the Division 1, 2 & 3 Finals followed in the afternoon in reverse order. Yet again the day produced some excellent golf and exciting matches being decided on the 18th and 19th holes.
The Hendon Hawks played the Hendon Hornets in the semi-finals. This turned out to be a very tight and thrilling match. Although on paper it looked like a forgone conclusion that the Hawks would win, there was no doubting the Hornets were out to do their best. The second pairing went down the 19th resulting in a win for the Hornets which meant the matches were then all square with one match left on the course. It came down to the last putt and the Hawks holed out for the win.
Wyke Green beat Highgate in the other semi-final with some hard fought matches.
No doubt the semi-finals kicked the Hendon Hawks in to gear as they went on to win in the afternoon against Wyke Green on their home course and retain their title as Middlesex Interclub Scratch Champions for the 2nd year running.
Sudbury were in top form on the day beating Mill Hill to take the Division 2 title and once again promotion to Division 1 in 2018.
Grim’s Dyke narrowly lost to Muswell Hill with the deciding match going down the 19th, thus taking the Division 3 title and promotion to Division 2 in 2018.
