Senior ladies narrowly defeated by Essex

The Middlesex senior ladies squad lost its first fixture of the year, narrowly pipped to the locker room by Essex, who took the fixture 3 ½ to 2 ½.  Playing in the very historic surroundings of the Rochford One Hundred Club, the home of Anne Boleyn’s family in the sixteenth century, our 6-person team gave the Essex side a good run for their money.  Wins by Lulu Housman and Birgitte Karle, plus a halved match by Elaine Cole, didn’t quite give us enough points, despite the close matches for Judith Williamson, Ginny Goudy and Angela Spelman. However, a fantastically sunny April day kept the players smiling.
