Middlesex U18s v Hertfordshire v Essex

An excellent day’s golf at Abridge against very strong opposition from Essex, our hosts, and Hertfordshire. All the Middlesex team played strongly but there was undoubtedly a standout performance from the in form Nya Fraser Lawrence fresh from his recent win in the Muswell Hill Scratch Open who won his matches convincingly 6/4 and 5/4. Toby Labdon also had excellent wins, 3/2 and 3/1, helped by several birdies and an excellent chip-in for birdie on Abridge’s tricky 14th hole.

Arran Kanth led from the front and picked up a valuable half against the Essex captain whilst our young team gained valuable experience against such tough opponents. It was left to our youngest team member, Manato Nakatani, to pick up our final half point against his Essex opponent. We now wish Manato the best of luck at the Reid Trophy at Reading next week.

All our County matches at U18 level are against some of the strongest counties in SE England and whilst our talent pool may not currently rival those of our opponents it always remains a challenge for our young golfers to compete against some high quality opponents. It is to their credit that we consistently pick up excellent individual wins whilst at the same time others will gain valuable learning.

The Middlesex U18s team: Arran Kanth (Pinner Hill), Captain, Nya Fraser-Lawrence (Hendon), Tayan Wagjiani (Ealing), Vadim Heritier (Highgate), Manato Nakatani (Hendon), Jack Neill (Ealing), Toby Labdon (Enfield), Kiaan Patel (Hendon).
