We regret to announce that Mr Alan Drake passed away on Friday 15th February, a few days shy of his 66th birthday.
Alan joined Muswell Hill Golf Club in 1969 and it was very evident early on that he would shine at golf. He won the first of his six Club Championships in 1971 and added many other major Club honours.
Alan was a consummate competitor and it’s no wonder that he was hugely successful at County level. Although he did not manage to win the County Championship (he reached the final twice), he did taste victory on two occasions in the Gowland Salver. His involvement with the County went beyond just playing the game, he was County 1st Team Captain between 1985 and 1989.
Further afield, Alan also played for the winning Hudson Trophy teams in 1975 and 1981, partnered Paul Corcoran on their way to victory in the 1973 Daily Mail foursomes and Ian Jeffrey to secure the Scottish Amicable Matchplay in 1984.
Alan was a devoted Muswell Hill member and was the Centenary Captain, a past Chairman and played an active role in many of the club’s committees. He was truly passionate about Muswell Hill Golf Club.
Alan was made a life member in 2015 and he will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his friends at the Club and in Middlesex.
Our sincerest condolences to the family
