A very autumnal Sunday, wet conditions to contest the finals of our season long competitions, the prestigious President's Foursomes and Middlesex Sixes. Fulwell took on Enfield in the President's Foursomes and Muswell Hill were facing Bush Hill Park in the Sixes. Six competitive pairs marched onto Pinner Hill first tee in support of each other and their opponents.
Fulwell's pairing of Harry Light and Rob Lyon secured the first point for their team, winning 1 up against the young Enfield pairing of Will Orridge and Will Field. Enfield won the third game comfortably to tie the match; Toby Labdon and Cameron Clark easing passed Rob Mills and Paul O'Briern 4&3. It was match two that was the decider and it couldn't have been closer. Enfield's Ben Davies and Tom Pritchett had an opportunity to win it on 18 but a three-putt proved costly as Fulwell's pair of Simon Westgarth and Sam Sloman won the first extra hole to ensure it was the south-west London club's name etched onto the trophy for the first time in its history.
The Middlesex Sixes is the county's most popular knockout tournament and making it to the final is a fantastic achievement in itself. This year's final would be contested between Muswell Hill and Bush Hill Park. It was a competitive final that could have gone either way, but it was Bush Hill Park that eventually came out on top, winning 2-1. The Enfield-based club has now won the competition twice, with the last victory coming in 2010. Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic season!
