Blyth triumphs in Handicap Championship that saw record entries

This year The Handicap Championship travelled to Mill Hill GC for the first time. The reputation of the revered Middlesex layout was evident in the record entries received for the event, with 86 hopefuls entering the Championship, more than double of last year's entries. It was also fantastic to see so many women support the event in the first year the Championship's mixed format. There was even a dog on site to wish all competitors good luck!

The bad luck with weather in recent Championships finally ceased and the entire day was played in pleasant scoring conditions. The difficult layout offered a stern test as only 12 players managed 36 points or better, which makes the top three scores all the more impressive. Mill Hill members, Mary McDowall and Altynay Davletova, tied on 40 points with Altynay beating Mary into second place on a count back. But on top of the field with a fantastic score of 42 points was Bush Hill Park GC's Richard Blyth.

Home advantage on the difficult track was obviously an advantage as Mill Hill swept the top 3 spots in the Team Championship. Mill Hill GC - Team 2 (Neil Fraser, Chris Murray, Angelo Albera, and Thomas Maloney) beat Mill Hill GC - Team 3 (G O Shea, George Davidson, Mark King, and David Clarke) by a mere three points.

Our thanks go to Mill Hill GC for being exceptional hosts, to the green staff for presenting the course in such fantastic condition, and to Emilio and his catering staff for the wonderful breakfast and lunch.
