Michael Okon and Sean Horan took home the gross and nett prizes at this year's Mid-Am Championship at Sudbury GC.
This popular fixture that always attracts a strong field but this year we received record entries with 93 men and women entering the 36-hole Championship. As with the Handicap Championship a week prior, the Mid-Am was open to women for the first time and it was fantastic to see a handful of women at the event. We hope to see their participation grow over the years.
The morning offered ideal scoring conditions as the sun shined and the wind laid down. Mark Abbott and Greg Smith posted 73's to sit on top of the leader board. But as the wind picked up for the afternoon Michael Okon buckled down and shot an impressive 72 in tough conditions to pip Smith by one shot despite a flurry of late birdies from Smith.
In the nett competition Sean Horan edged Sudbury's Obi Nnochiri by a single point to ensure that both accolades went back to Mill Hill GC.
The Team Championship was not as close as the combination of Pinner Hill GC's Andre Bothma, Gary Clark, Dave Hale, Greg Smith proved too strong for the other teams. The won by 32 strokes over Muswel Hill GC's Bill Carey, Sebastian Frankiss, Ralph Hearn, and Stuart Summers.
We would like to sincerely thank Sudbury GC for taking on the Championship at such short notice.
