Men's Senior KO

Originally meant to be played along side the Gowland, Women's Singles, and Women's Foursomes, the Men's Senior KO had to be postponed to Sunday 1st November this year as veteran Gerry Fitzgerald had succeeded in the unlikely and reached the semi-finals of both the Gowland and Senior KO. Another unique aspect of these finals was that due to the condensed schedule caused by COVID the semi-final and final were played on the same day, a tough task for any over 30 let alone 55!

Once again we travelled to the fantastic Crews Hill GC for the semi-finals and final. In the semis we had Simon Westgarth Vs Gerry Fitzgerald and Ian Fulda Vs Rap Rapp. Unfortunately in the 1st semi-final Gerry struggled all day and conceded the match to Simon on the 10th as it looked like he was going 6dn. In the 2nd semi-final Ray Rapp was 5up after 11 but Ian Fulda found something in his swing and began making a come back and brought the match to the 18th but couldn't force extra holes.

The final was like a rollercoaster! Simon got off to a quick start and was 3up through 3 on Ray but Ray pegged Simon back and found himself only 1dn at the turn. Simon then went 3up again after 12 holes but lost four holes in a row to go 1dn with 3 to play! A poor drive cost Ray the 18th hole and the match went down the 19th. Playing straight into the breeze, neither player could get home in two. Ray couldn't manage to get his par but Simon chipped to 5ft and rolled in the par putt for the match and title.

Thanks again to Crews Hill GC for their hospitality and to all the competitors who entered the season long knockout.
