2021 Junior Champion Club - Tournament Report

The sun shone brightly on Grim's Dyke GC as Middlesex's brightest young stars took to the course for the first time this year. The tournament is a singles Stableford format but The Junior Champion Club is a team event, comprising of the two best scores from the three players of each team.

There was a total of 18 teams entered totalling 54 players. Enfield GC lead the way with five teams entered, Pinner Hill GC and Stanmore GC had three teams each entered, West Middlesex GC, Ealing GC, and Hendon GC all had two teams, and Muswell Hill rounded the tournament out with one team.

This year Middlesex Golf took advantage of the new WHS course rating system and allowed competitors to choose which tees they played from. This was well received by players and we are sure to retain this condition in future years.

Full of confidence from shooting 44 points at Enfield GC on Saturday, Enfield GC's Izzy Codling was in the first group out and posted a score that could not be matched all day. Izzy had a sensational 48 points!! She combined with her teammates Ben Roper (35 points) and Freddie Buck (32 points), who is just eight years old!, for a tournament-winning 83 point total, 4 points ahead of their fellow Enfield members Maisie O'Shea, Alex John, and Tyrese Danso.

Izzy, Ben, and Freddie will now go on to represent Middlesex at the England Golf Junior Champion Club at Woodhall Spa on 24th and 25th August.

Individually, Izzy took home first place but a special mention must go to Enfield GC's Lucy Labdon who shot an incredible +3 gross to post 45 points and James Hanna who had a rare big bird on the 14th hole with a magnificent eagle two!
