Middlesex Men's Senior undefeated after beating Beds at Beds GC.

My county senior team won 5.5 v 4.5 for the league match v Bedfordshire on Friday 11th June 2021 at Bedfordshire Golf Club.

After their unprecedented win against BB&O, the Middlesex Seniors went on the road to the Bedfordshire Golf Club in search of another victory.  Conditions were tricky on a windy day on an exposed course, but Middlesex was unperturbed and sent out young guns Sivers, Clarke and Westgarth to lead the charge.  Sivers was 2 down most of the way until the Bedfordshire opponent foolishly revealed his celebrity status as a Welsh amateur golfing legend; cue a series of outrageous up and downs on the last 3 holes by Sivers to secure a half. Clarke was comfortable with his club-throwing opponent and secured a 2&1 victory after leading throughout.  Westgarth was beaten this time, but when these three convened in the clubhouse they also found a fully rehydrated number 5, Mick McCormick, who had beaten his opponent in the country 6&5.  It was not Tim Jones’ day but shortly after John Fletcher turned in yet another point, leaving the Middlesex boys sitting smugly in the clubhouse 3 ½ - 2 ½ ahead, with 4 games out on the course. The next two, however, didn’t follow the script and we found ourselves still needing wins from the remaining 2 matches.  As Bill Carey approached the 18th we learned he was 1 up and he duly ground down his opponent into a concession and a 2 up win.  Learning that Dave Hale was 1-up on the 18th tee meant that the worst we would achieve was 5-5, but Mr Hale was having none of it, playing 2 great shots into 18 to secure his 2 up win and another glorious victory from CKs Commandos.  Bring on Essex!
