The Mid-Am today at Fulwell today was the anthesis of the first attempt in June ... no wind, ideal temperature, and not a drop of rain in sight. It is always a pleasure to play Fulwell GC but especially under tournament conditions. Ryan and his course staff had the course in immaculate condition and Murray and the clubhouse staff ensured that every player was well looked after.
Scoring was high but Pinner Hill stalwart, Gary Clark, managed an even-par 71 to open up a two-shot lead at the halfway point. Local man Paul O'Brien was two shots behind and Philip Chirstides was a further one shot with a plethora of Fulwell members in tow.
In the afternoon, the scoring did not improve. It was a war of attrition on the slick and smooth greens. Philip Christides posted 149 early on and had a long wait to see if the score would be good enough. His hopes were buoyed when the leader's scores came in after 27-holes as Clark had dropped shots. But it was not to be for Philip, who would finish in third place, as Ian Ashenden posted an afternoon 71 to finish in 2nd place and Paul O'Brien of Fulwell GC posted his second consecutive 73 for a total of 146 to claim the title.
In the team competition, it was a very close affair as Fulwell GC beat Wyke Green GC by a single shot!
