James Ellis of Perivale Park GC has won the 2021 Men's Order of Merit in dramatic fashion.
2021 saw the introduction of the new and improved Order of Merit points system that saw the bigger and more accessible events awarded with more points to compete for.
Missing out on the points in the Men's County Championship, James had a lot of ground to make up but his great finishes in the Middlesex Scratch Open earned him the points he needed. A 3rd place at Fulwell, 4th at Muswell Hill, the top Middlesex member at Ealing, and Champion at the CW Roe earned James 82 points. His quarter-final finish in the Gowland Salver gave him a season-long total of 97 points.
Niall Keogh earned 50 points from his win at the County Championship while the runner up Ian Ashenden earned 40. Other than Niall's solitary 6 points earned at the Ealing Scratch Open neither player earned any points at scratch cups through the summer. But both players played their way into the Men's Gowland Salver Final and a chance to once again earn a large number of points. The result of this final went the opposite way of the County Championship final which meant Niall Keogh fell one point shy of the James in the Order of Merit and Ian Ashenden finished third. The final standings can be viewed HERE.
We would like to congratulate them all on a great season and James, Niall, and Ian will receive a voucher and an automatic bye into the last 32 of the 2022 Gowland Salver.
