Middlesex had 2 new players in the team, Luke Fitzpatrick from Haste Hill and Alex Bull from Highgate.
Our foursomes matches with BB&O started well at Sudbury GC with Middlesex being 3-1 up after 9 holes. All the matches were very close with Danial Parsons and Joe Pitts eventually winning after an eagle on the 17th to win 2&1. Jack Niall and Will Orridge halved after leading nearly all the way, while Kane Stone and Luke Fitzpatrick lost up the last hole. Niall Keogh and Alex Bull lost 4&3.
Our single matches started well with Danial Parsons winnings the last 2 holes with an eagle and birdie to finish 2 up. Unfortunately, things went downhill afterwards with Jack Niall losing on the last 1 down in a game that turned on a couple of chips/putts going in for BB&O, Jack certainly deserved at least a half out from his match. Luke played well, but was always down and eventually lost 3&2, Will fell behind early and he never recovered losing 5&4, Joe Pitts lost 6&5 and that was Joe's only league defeat in 2022, taking 3 out of 4 points in his matches. Alex's debut finished pointless with a 2&1 defeat, but his game could have gone either way on the greens, and Niall lost 2&1. Cruelly the 18th proved Kane's downfall, playing the 17th he was in pole position and 1 up, Kane chipped to 8-10 feet, but a brilliant shot from BB&O gave them a 'gimme' birdie, unfortunately, Kane lipped out both on the 17th and 18th greens for birdies to lose 1 down.
Both teams played some amazing golf but Sudbury's 17th and 18th holes undid our team with BB&O playing them extremely well. The overall result certainly didn’t represent the game and it was a lot closer.
Overall Middlesex 2.5 - BB&O 9.5. The match score can be viewed HERE.
