Enfield Juniors Fall just short in Wales

It was not to be as Enfield juniors competed in the Junior Team Golf Home Nations Inter Club Championships Final at Nefyn GC, North Wales. Last October Enfield became English champions at The Players Club, Bristol and last week competed against the respective winners from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Enfield suffered very narrow defeats to Turnhouse, Scotland and Mold, Wales and were also beaten by eventual winners Forrest Little, Ireland. However it was a fantastic experience for our players at Nefyn where they experienced all 4 seasons of weather across 3 days of golf and it has set up our players so well for the season ahead.

The format was very interesting. All singles match play with 2 of the contests off scratch and then 6 handicap matches. Enfield were by some distance the lowest handicap team competing and in fact didn’t receive a shot in a single game. Across all these matches Enfield were conceding on average just over 9 shots each game. Tough going! Nevertheless, the experience was priceless.

Many of the players now have significant Middlesex and regional competitions over the next couple of months. In truth, despite the disappointment of the outcome in North Wales, it has been brilliant early season preparation for everyone. What a fantastic way to start the season!
