The inter-county league matches are played against Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. Each match involves selecting six players to compete individually, and despite playing off scratch, the order of play is based on handicap.
Responsibility for collecting the results and running the end of season jamboree and trophy presentation rotates around the counties and it is Middlesex’s turn in 2024. The jamboree is scheduled to take place at Highgate on Tuesday 1st October 2024.
Additionally, we are taking part in the Inter County Team Competition which involves ten counties and will be hosted in 2024 by Mill Ride Golf Club in Berkshire. This is a one day event where four players represent Middlesex in a Strokeplay format off scratch. The best three individual scores are added together to decide the overall winning team. This event takes place on Monday 16th September 2024.

Friday 10th May Mulligan Larsen match against Hampshire at Wyke Green
The Middlesex women’s senior team started their season with a match against the newly joined Hampshire team. Held at Wyke Green, most of our players home ground, the match ended in an exciting 3-3 draw. We are delighted with this strong start to the season against such a formidable opponent.

Friday 24th May Mulligan Larsen match against Kent at Muswell Hill
The second match of the season took place at Muswell Hill against the reigning champions, Kent. Kent were very well prepared, having played a practice round the day before and we unfortunately lost ½ – 5½ against this very strong team. Louise Tulip secured our half-point by making an impressive comeback from being three down to halve her match. Despite the loss, it was a beautiful day, and Kent had high praise for the excellent condition of the course. We’re looking forward to improving from here.

Friday 19th July Mulligan Larsen match against Sussex at Royal Ashdown Forest
Our fourth match of 2024 took us to the splendid Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club. We arrived the Saturday before our game for a practice round and had a delightful day. The hospitality was outstanding. I discovered that Lulu’s grandfather, Rowand Harker, served as the club captain in 1924. Lulu’s mother, Pauline Harker, was introduced to golf at a young age at this golf club and later wrote a book titled “The Long and the Short of It” about her lessons with Archie Compston. Below is a picture of Pauline at age 15, and it’s clear where Lulu inherited her impressive swing.
We also had a fantastic match day against a formidable Sussex team and managed to secure two points. The company, golf, weather, and food were all exceptional. Days like this are exactly why we love the Mulligan Larsen League so much.
